Micro-monopoly sits upstream of everything. Brand. Marketing. Product. Sales. Culture. All of it flows from one decision: what space do we own?


The cascade

Get the micro-monopoly right, and downstream decisions become obvious. Product roadmaps write themselves. Marketing has a real story. Sales knows exactly what game they're playing.

Get it wrong, or skip it entirely, and every team is guessing.


Where companies go wrong

Most companies start downstream. They redesign the logo. Rewrite the messaging. Hire a new CMO. Launch a campaign.

None of that fixes an upstream problem. It's like repainting a house that's on the wrong lot.


The rule

Before you fix anything downstream, ask one question:

Do we know what we own?

If the answer is no, nothing else matters yet.
